Humid Tropical Garden
Hi all!
I am a newbie in gardening and I live in Kuching, Malaysia whereby it is basically hot and humid the entire year. So planting can get a bit tricky I guess.
Currently we are having the monsoon season (Rainy season) so it rains every single day, and it is always a downpour. This is what first 30 mins of downpour did to one of my containers....
Basically the whole pot is flooded there are also a few pots flooded. This pattern repeats everyday. But last few weeks we saw no sun but rain and rain... it could rain the whole day. Not very good for the plants... these eggplants and hot pepper looks stunted already

Re: Humid Tropical Garden
Wow, talk about rain! Is there any way to quickly drain the water and shelter the pots under clear plastic from the rain? The roots need a little air and will drown in saturated soils. It looks like the pot is on flat surface so the water may not freely drain out the bottom. Put a little rock or stick under one side of the bottom so draining water will have a place to escape! I had 7 pepper plants on a smooth surface and I realized that the water was draining very slowly. I put a stick under each one so the water could drain quickly.
Good luck and I hope you are able to save them.

Hi Sanderson,
Yea the rain here can destroy plants at times especially seedlings. It Pours for hours at times
Do you mean put it at one side of the pot so it will slant to one side?
Here are others that are doing a lil better
White coloured eggplant.
I thought this capsicum was a goner but suddenly the leaves starts growing back and it flowered and a few capsicums pops out

Hi Edwin, Yes, I meant so that the pot is slanted. one end of the bottom is a little elevated. The eggplant and peppers look like they are doing great.
Re: Humid Tropical Garden
I had a scorpian pepper in a ceramic flower pot that didn't drain well. Every time it rained I had to go out and empty the pot. Looked a lot like yours. Finally transplanted to a bucket with better drainage and it grew to 5 ft. But I almost lost it. Improve the drainage anyway you can. In your climate you may have to put up some kind of shelter during monsoons.
Here it is a couple of months after repotting.
