Dilemma About Where to Put My Boxes
I live in Zone 7b/8 and it's getting to be time to get plants in the ground soon. My problem is my yard. It's a mess.
We're going to have the entire yard re-graded probably in August. The whole yard will be dug up, leveled out, and seeded and fertilized. Should I just put plywood bottoms on all my boxes so I can move them around when I need to? I was really hoping to avoid that, but I'm wondering if I should just get over it and do it to make my life easier later.
My boxes are 2' x 4'. My hubby is worried the boxes will be too heavy to move anyway if we do put bottoms on them.

... or if you don't want to put wheels on them, set the boxes up on bricks, then when it comes time they need to be moved, rent a skid-loader or a big dolley or something like that ...

Id say go with the plywood bottoms a 2'x4' bed shouldnt bee too heavy 2 strong able bodied men should be able to move them with no problems throw the land scapers a couple of cold beers and im sure they will be more then happy to help you move them (i know i would lol)

Re: Dilemma About Where to Put My Boxes
Hi,
I would put a bottom on your boxes or you will lose your whole crop/garden when the landscapers come through. If the yard is being leveled or graded the boxes will have to move. Make it easy for that to happen and the garden might survive.

Who has been dealing with landscapers and a school garden, trust me it has not been pretty for the garden.

Re: Dilemma About Where to Put My Boxes
I agree that a 2x4 box shouldn't be too heavy (unless of course it's 18" deep!)
Put a 1/4" plywood bottom on it using short deck screws. Once your major landscaping project is finished, you can easily remove the plywood and replace with weed barrier before putting the boxes in their new (permanent?) location.

Re: Dilemma About Where to Put My Boxes
Thanks everyone. You're right. *sigh* I will get plywood.
DH did suggest putting them on carts .... when I told him how expensive that would be, he retracted his idea!!!

Re: Dilemma About Where to Put My Boxes
actualy its not that expensive at all to put wheels on your box's heres a link with multiple wheel solutions that can just be screwed to the bottom of the box's http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/NTESearch?storeId=6970&N=0&Ntk=All&Ntt=casters&Nty=1&D=casters&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Dx=mode+matchallpartial if its going to be on a lwan though id suggest a decent sized wheel maybe with alittle tread to make it easier to push
