Grids
A thought about Grids: I have used white plastic coated laundry line. It looked so pretty but at times it came out from under the screws and washers. Annoying. This year I started laying carpenter shims for grids because I embrace the low tech concept. Instead of laying them flat, and (to me) covering up valuable growing space I lay them upward on the skinny side and push in until amost level with MM. Still have a nice grid, no messing around with screws, washers, nails, go charge up the power drill, or in my case where is my husbands power drill, etc. Then the end of the growing season, just toss into a bag for next Spring.

Re: Grids
Very and a lot less expensive, too!
Wonder how many seasons the shims will last...

Re: Grids
How long are your shims? Do you have a picture of the grid in place? I like the idea of a easily removable grid. Right now I plant within a square made with rulers, then once the plants start growing I remove the grid and use it elsewhere.
It is also so much easier & simpler to add add compost & work it in without a grid on. It would be quick & easy to just push shims back in place and leave them thru harvest.

Re: Grids
Thanks Luci and Quiltbea I don't know how long it will last. If it decays I will just replace the one foot piece. It pulls out easily and I put them back in the bag for the winter, except for the ones currently in my broccoli box.
Lindacol-The shims are slightly longer than a foot. They are tapered at one end, like nearly paper thin, so simple to snap off to desired length. Ok I am trying to upload a picture for you in the next post.

Re: Grids
I get a little nervous trying to post pictures, Hope This Worked! Maybe I should call this Llama Momma's Shim-Grid?
p.s. The rocks were holding down the tulle covering. Critter cage obviously behind the box.

Lindacol [b] Rulers are the perfect size! Now all that matters is which is more cost effective, rulers or a bag of carpenter shims? Except I haven't a clue what I paid for them a few months ago.

Well, my beds are 3" short of 8' long, because of the thickness of the end boards, so my 'feet' are actually 11 5/8".
I was in Lowe's the other day, and I think a large pack of shims were about $2.00. Very price effective!
