Ants !!!
I have ants on the leaves of my Eggplant crops - but they don't seem to be doing harm as the eggplants grow fine - this is the third year that this is happening - should i be doing something about the ants ?

sorry took so long to get back to you - I have realised that ants brings on aphids and have called in the "big guns" ( mum and dad ) to push me in the right direction - thanks for your prompt response !!

Re: Ants !!!
I had ants on my corn I used white pepper to get rid of them. Just sprinkle it all over the plant especially in the crevices. Works great just reapply if it rains.

Re: Ants !!!
It has been raining all day today and I mean like over an inch already rain. The red ants will be looking for high ground and this means our planter boxes and tree rings. These are the dreaded red fire ant too. The ones that swarm and bite. WE have tried every thing on these things and the only things that kill them hurt the plants too. We hated doing it but have had to go to a ant poison designed to get them. We do not broad cast the stuff over the entire yard cause it kills other helpful things as well as the fire ants. We use the poison on the mounds around trees and in planter boxes, and fight the ones in the yard with more organic things like boiling water.
Baby powder
was recommended for ants in a previous post somewhere. Wonder if it would work for fire ants?

Re: Ants !!!
I use baby powder in the house. But, I found out new baby powders are made from corn starch! So I went to the Dollar store and bought several older talc-based. It's the talc that kills them.
Re: Ants !!!
I also read somewhere sprinkle Lime around your garden boxes will stop ants.

I've heard cinnamon also works. But haven't had much luck with it.
On the fire ants, I've learned that they DON'T like white vinegar! I just pour it over their mounds.

Does the vinegar kill them or just make them move on to the next box.

We use cinnamon
all the time on our kitchen counter. We keep the container right there. We make a boundary line and the ants do not cross it. So it works for that. Never considered using it in the garden until this post.

Kills some, moves the rest...
