You guys are so lucky! It's too hot here for toads and frogs, at least away from the washes. So instead, we get geckos. I see them rustling through the squares in my plots from time to time, so I'm hoping they're finding things they like. If they ever hold still long enough, I'll snap a pic, but they're about as twitchy as a chihuahua.

Have you tried adding in a rockery?  Anything handy will do, broken bricks, broken terracotta pots, etc.  It doesn't even have to be large. Frogs love a good place to hide.

I have even thought of kidnapping a couple of frogs but that 's cruel  SadSadSad  so I haven't done it. :afraid: Did have a field mouse living init for a bit though Very Happy

Being in England, you might have Great Diving Beetles in your pond.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_diving_beetle

Big beetle, adults are voracious hunters, and the larva are, if anything, nastier. In an aquarium setting, the larva have been known to attack fingers, pencils, etc.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_tiger

They'll become the apex predator in a small enough body of water, and will happily annihilate tadpoles!

How precious! We don't have toads/frogs in our area either. But my garden has become home to MANY spiders, so I'm happy w/ that. Have also been seeing more and more parasitic wasps and ladybugs.

Here is a pic I took last week...a parasitic wasp doing its part to control a colony of oleander aphids on my Marsh Milkweed...I watched this little wasp inject it's eggs into the aphids for over 30 minutes.  Between the wasps, ladybug larvae, and ladybugs, every aphid colony was wiped out in a few days.
