Pretty Plants
So what would you say is the prettiest vegetable in your garden so far. In the spring it was my patty pan squash. Alas that one is long gone, now it is the okra tree my neighbor has named Gargancua. Wish I could post pics but can't yet.

Re: Pretty Plants
For me the hands down winner is the pretty lavender flowers and robust dark purple eggplant fruits!

Re: Pretty Plants
Without doubt, it has to be my okra plants. They have such gorgeous flowers. I'm actually thinking of putting a few in the front flower bed next summer.
Your neighbor has it right with that name. I had no idea okra plants got so huge! And I have table top SFGs that are already 3 feet off the ground. Hubby says I may need to pull out the 8-ft stepladder if they get any taller, or I may not be able to reach the tops to harvest.
ETA: Llama momma - I agree, the eggplants are a close second for prettiest in my garden.

Re: Pretty Plants
I am a newbie so I didn't attempt anything too fancy...for me I'd have to say the jalapeno plant. I had at least a dozen blooms on it at once and they were so white and delicate against such a pretty pepper green. I was struck by the contrast of the delicacy of the blooms against the bite I knew the pepper would have.

Re: Pretty Plants
Absolutely the eggplants! Hands down, without a doubt! Bea-u-ti-ful! And I am making eggplant parmesan tonight!
I didn't plant okra this year and missed it terribly. Those flowers are also pretty. I hope to do okra for next summer, though.

I am so jealous of your ability to grow artichokes. It is beautiful Boffer.

Re: Pretty Plants
I grow them for the flowers because my globes never get as big as the ones sold in the grocery store.
I think they are a warmer climate plant. Sometimes they over-winter for me, and sometimes they don't. If I buy a seedling from the local nursery, they usually will go to flower in one season.
It's one of those garden wonders to see a dozen bumble bees laying on their backs and wiggling on the stamens.

Re: Pretty Plants
Oh, now, Boffer! No fair. You're just going to have to try to get a pic posted of a bunch of bumble bees laying on their backs and enjoying the flower! The one bee is cute as can be, but I wanna see the garden wonder of a bunch of them!!! Just plant yourself beside the flower with your camera and wait till a bunch of bumblebees show up & snap the pic - what's difficult about that? Tee hee.

Re: Pretty Plants
Pink sweet potato flowers on my Japanese sweet potatoes. Pretty enough to enjoy even if the plants fail to develop sweet potatoes in this climate. Interesting experiement, BTW. Nonna
