Chipped Bark or wood problems
I'm new to SFG and we have a new area of SFG boxes. Our plants are doing really well with some small squash starting !!! My question ; Are there any problems associated with using chipped wood or bark for foot paths around our boxes? Problems with bugs or attracting bugs to our new plants. Thanks in advance Newbie Jim

Re: Chipped Bark or wood problems
We used wood chips with no problems, and we thought ahead and put down weed cloth under the paths too. You don't want to be pulling weeds in the paths.

Chipped Bark or wood problems
Thanks for the reply Jo, I also thought ahead and placed the weed cloth down ( A miracle !!!) I thought that the bark chips would be OK but, wanted to check.
Thanks once again !! Jim

Re: Chipped Bark or wood problems
I used shredded bark for my walkways as well. I am very pleased with it. The weed cloth will not keep down all of the weeds, but the few that do make their way through are easy to spot and easy to get rid of.

Freestar,
So nice to have nother Oregonian join the group. I absolutely love Brookings, especially Harris Beach State Park and the one (forgot it's name - maybe Loeb?) up the Chetco River.
Congratulations on your new SFG. We are still waiting for our squash.
Please feel free to ask questions, as you can see, there are lots of helpful folk here.
Again, Welcome and be sure to check out the Pacific North West Regional Forum.

Chipped Bark or wood problems
Thanks for the welcome, Furbalsmom. You are correct about Loeb Park, it's about three miles up the Chetco River. I have placed plastic sheeting over the boxes to prevent the fog and coastal salt air from the plants. So far so good!!!
