Ad on Craigslist: I have real compost for sale $22 per ton 3 to minimum. Delivery available Also pick up $45 big pick up $30 small pick up

I emailed the guy asking for details and he responded:

Becomes cheaper for bulk. It is made of horse and little ground cattle
manure, chicken manure, and woodchips, water and is approx 10months to1
yr old. It is turned over every week, so it can get oxygen to decompose. I
have been doing this business for over 6 yrs to the public and to
landscapers

I know Mel's Mix recommends five different blends... would this constitute more than one blend? Does this sound like a bargain? He is just a mile from my house too... study

Sounds pretty good to me. I would want to see what the wood chips are, or if he means shavings from bedding. It is a great deal, especially if he uses his loader to fill up your truck!!! Such a deal!!! How does this description sound? 679265 How does this description sound? 311672

Agreed that I would want to see the size of the wood chips. If fully decomposed chips, I would call it 4 sources/types. At minimum, it's 3 sources/types imo. If I can make out any former wood chips, I wouldn't count them as a source. As long as there are no "chunks," I would likely use it.

3+ a smidgen here. If you decide to go there pan some thru 1/4" course screen and see what residue remains.

If being organic is important to you, don't forget to ask about the diet of the animals producing the manure. If they are being fed hormones and steroids, those could pass into the manure.

Picked up 1.5 tons for about $25. Thanks everyone for the contributions - it definitely helped when I talked to him.

He was also only 1/2 mile away. He showed me the piles of compost that he moves down the line over a period of ten months. It contained horse manure, cow manure, chicken manure, sheep manure and wood chip material.

Asked about hormones & steroids and he said he could unequivacolly state that parts he contributed to the compost didn't have any of the above but some of the others (sheep manure) he could not vouch for. I want mine to be as healthy as possible but figured this was a very good deal, it's likely a helluva lot better than what I'm getting at the store and if I grow another tentacle, it'll help me garden faster.

Good source here in Phoenix. Dealt with Mike. PM if you want his info in Gilbert. He does deliver but I took my wife's pickup over.
