Josh, it looks like this wheel bug nymph:

What do you think?

Yep that is what it looks like to me too, also called assissan bugs. Lucky you, they are one of the good guys. Squash, and leaf footed bug nymphs look very much like that too, they are related, here's hopeing that is not what you have. They are hard for me to tell apart at the nymph stage.

Hi Shannon, I just made a post about the leaf footed bug nymphs called "night time bug raid." I have seen puh-lenty of those devils lately and their whole bodies and heads are that orangey color. I am at war with those things! If you don't catch them while they're still in the nymph stage, they are much harder to catch and kill since they can fly and have a hard shell, like a stink bug!

Probably everybody has heard it since I've moaned and groaned about it so much since joining the forum, but those leaf footed bugs, combined with the stink bugs and an outbreak of army worms decimated my row garden last summer.

I think Josh has one of the good guys, at least that what I'm hoping! He does look rather fierce when he's not a baby any more, though! (The bug, not Josh! LOL!) http://www.hiltonpond.org/thisweek030901.html

Thanks for the ID!

I have seen the adult wheel bug but didn't know what it was called, they are a very strange looking bug!

My gardening neighbor brought one in a jar for mr to ID. I told him all about them he let it loose in his garden and the very next day saw it with an impaled stink bug on it's proboscis. Twisted Evil
