Planted my green and yellow bush beans back on May 19th. They were pre-soaked and I still have no sign of them. Hoping all of the sun and heat this week will encourage them to sprout.

All other plants doing really well. Wonderful to see growth everyday when I come home!

If it was me, I would replant, directly into the garden, no presoaking. Let us know what you choose to do! good luck!!

Beans can rot if the soil is too cool or you soaked them too long (no more than one hour my book says). That has happened to me before after a may planting. Dig up a corner of one square and check.

Yup! I would replant too. Beans and corn both like nice warm soil or they won't germinate well. I planted mine just before I went away on the long weekend in May and they were poking through the soil by the time I got back five days later. Sometimes I do a couple of plantings of beans just to prolong the season a bit.

If it's any consolation I planted mine around May 10th and they rotted/ split in 2/ or disintegrated too. (They were covered so I know they weren't eaten. ) After further reading I see on page 252 of All New SFG that they won't germinate below 15*.... I think the cool weather and excessive rain did them in. Oh well, back to square one ! You're not alone

I didn't know any better and soaked mine over night. Nothing grew. I waited and waited and finally dug around and discovered, nothing. I then took the beans from the package and poked holes here and there and in no time, they are popping out all over the place. They are so big and beautiful, just makes me smile to see them. I think two things were my downfall on the first planting. I oversoaked and I planted when the soil wasn't warm enough at night. These guys that are putting up their heads now are smiling sunny . Good luck!

Sounds exactly like my experience Stripes. I have replanted and am now waiting on my little sprouts. Lots of other great things to see while I wait. Radish, carrots, lettuce, peas, blossoming peppers, cucumbers, green onions, watermelon, and tomatoes are all busy growing. Seems like a lot for a little 3'x6' SFG!

I also have potatoes and pumpkins growing in a side garden as well.

I planted spinach on the same day as my beans and it is up today. So that puts my soil temperature at 15 C. According to the germination chart in the book, I'll be waiting another 9 days for the beans unless the soil warms up a little more. That's a long wait, but that's Canada folks!

I planted my beans 1 week ago even though it had been cool because the forecast was a warming trend. WARMING????? It has been 89* 4 days in a row! Tomorrow is forecast for 90* and T-storms, so I am planning on 95+. Beans and corn both popped up in less than 1 week. Downside? Wed. is forecast for a high of 65* with lows in the 40's again for a few days. I may risk transplanting my little tomato seedlings anyway. I have had them out on the porch for 2 days and nights straight and their little stems are thickening nicely.

Ahhh the wisdom of SFGers! I replanted my beans and inside a week I now have sprouts on my green beans so I am sure the yellow will not be far behind!

Can't wait to get my hands dirty tonight when I get home. Time to do some thinning out!

What does pre soaking do? Do you just put them in water? How long do you soak them?

Don't do it! I read that pre-soaking the seeds from 1 hr to no more than 24 will soften the outer shell and speed up germination. Bahhhhh.

The beans that I replanted Last Monday (unsoaked) came up within 6 -7 days. I assume the pre-soaked seeds rotted as nothing came up at all.
