beans beans the more you eat.....
I have a 4x4 SFG all planted in bush beans, so that is....... 16x9=144 or so
Anyways I went to work this morning and there was a faint hint of a few beginning to sprout, (I work 9-5) however it appears that almost all of the beans have sprouted today
Not sure if that is 144, but it certainly is a LOT, all in one day, I feel like the parent who was at work when the kid took the first step

our beans are "hatching". I planted one square of a mix of yellow, purple and green beans, and another of filet beans. I plan to succession sow (have three other squares dedicated and empty). Hopefully the stupid slugs will leave them alone.

Oy, mama. I hope you like beans a lot. That's a lot of beans!
I planted 6 in each square this year, instead of recommended 9, and they are growing like a jungle!

Re: beans beans the more you eat.....
Oh I just want to freeze them for a great protein source for the winter.
I hope to plant another bed with TURTLE beans in the next day or so.
I did not like beans growing up and after being married a few years, my husband (who did not like olives), and I agreed that if he would learn to like olives, I would learn to like beans....
However the ONLY way to eat beans are the ones from my garden, I cannot stand canned ones or the frozen from the store beans.
Elliot coleman explained it very well.
Most beans sold in stores have been mechanically picked and in order to do that they have to be of a certain size that is not necessarily the best size to eat.
SO home grown beans ARE the very best....

There appear to be a few "no shows" in each square, perhaps I will not fill them in.

Oh, believe me, I had a bunch of no shows - my seeds were old. Some of them also take much longer to sprout.GWN wrote:

Re: beans beans the more you eat.....
I planted my first set of bush beans on the 16th of May. They started popping their little heads out on the 21st.
One 4x6 will be mostly beans with 6 sq of something else. Succession planted...
One 4x4 will has two squares of pole beans and two sq of cucumbers. The rest are red kidney beans.
half of a 4x4 (other half potato onions) are royal burgundy. These grow purple and turn green when cooked. Can't wait to see grandkids faces
Probly won't be enough for over winter but at least I will have some.

Re: beans beans the more you eat.....
Last year I made at least 30 jars of dilly beans only to find that the ones I just froze I used WAY more of.
And of course the pickling is way more work.
So this year NO pickling beans, just freeze....
