Re: Vermicomposting (worms inside!)
TheCat's......With an elastic band, attach a piece of ladies hose over any openings. I put one over my nozzle where the liquid drains into a container.
I bought the CanOWorms because it was the easiest for me. I don't have a handy helper for most things around here so I choose the easiest road I can follow, if I can afford it.
Don't put garden worms in your worm homes. You want to get Red Wigglers which are adapted to living this way.
If you ever run out of kitchen scraps, just tear up black and white newspaper. They make it with vegetable dyes these days. Its safe for worms. Its not only bedding, they eat it. Also egg cartons, coffee grounds and their filters, tea bags, and crushed egg shells are very good for worm ranches. The crushed egg shells are a great additon to your compost but also provide places for the worms to lay their eggs in the little curves of the crushed eggshell shapes.
No animal meats, bones, fish, oils, fats, or pet waste. They aren't crazy over too much root crop leftovers, and no citrus. One worm rancher gave his worms a head of lettuce and found his herd dead. Give lettuce in smaller portions mixed in with other kitchen scraps.
You can't beat the compost. Folks pay high prices for it.
