How long can I keep my extra MM?
Hey all, I just finished filling my final two boxes with MM, and realized I had more mix than I had boxes. So now I have nearly 6 cubic of a combination of MM and various "potting soil" mixes that were donated by neighbors.
So now I have two questions. First, how long can I store MM in my storage shed? Secondly, beyond replacing the mix in the bags I recycled from my MM components, how would you recommend I store the finished product for the long haul? I intend to use part of my left over MM to plant the first rose bush I have purchased for my wife of 5 years (yes, it took that long to figure out what kind of rose is my Love's love, the Rio Samba), and to fill some spare planters with more tomatoes (can you ever have enough tomatoes?). I expect to have about 4 cubic feet left.
Any and all recommendations will be greatly appreciated!

Re: How long can I keep my extra MM?
Empty five gal. buckets, especially those with tight fitting lids work well. I store compost, vermiculite, peat moss and so on, in various buckets. All my laundry soap and dishwasher soap came in rectangular plastic buckets, which I love! The lids fit nice and tight, they stack 3 or 4 high and fit nicely in the garden shed without wasting space like round ones do. I do use round ones too, but I prefer the rectangular ones. And of course, FREE is the operative word.
You can get empty pickle buckets sometimes from restaurants and those work good too.
As to how long you can keep it.........well, as long as it is dry, I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to keep it for a couple of years.
