This weekend I'm gonna start my first compost bin. I'm planning on buying a large plastic trash can and drilling holes in it. I've been reading a lot about composting and I'm really confused about the ratio of brown/green. Some say 50/50 and same 4/1. HELP!!!!!!! :?:

Mel's has a nice percentage chart for compost ingredients on page 96 of his new book (All New SFG). I would used that as a guideline. He lists about 11 ingredients and states that each item should be 20% of the total. I see about an equal amount of brown and green in the list, but check it out for yourself.
