Show us your tomato trellises!
I'm still trying to decide how I'm going to trellis my tomatoes. I'm going to need a couple kinds of trellises. I'm growing 6 determinate and 6 indeterminate tomato plants.
If you have pictures of your trellises would you post them up and let us know how they worked out for you?
Also if you have recommendations I'd greatly appreciate it. I think I'm going to stay away from the cages. It might get a tad expensive. I'm leaning more toward stakes or A-frames with string.

Mel's Tomato Towers
Last year I bought Mel's Tomato Wagon Trellis and used them on a 2x4 bed of tomatoes. They worked great. I am searching for systems for my other beds which will have just one trellis on each north side (cucumbers, peas, tomatoes). I also need a system for a 2x6 melon bed similar to my tomato bed.

I'm so glad you posted this! I was thinking in my head I wanted to do something similar. Wondered if it would work. :o)

I am not sure how I am going to do it yet, but I want to try overhead trellising of my tomatoes this year. Last year they grew more than 10 foot tall and I ended up using poles to prop the fruit laden tops.

I've been thinking of something along the lines of cord running from the top of the trellis across the yard to the roof :idea:

Glad I found this thread so fast b/c I was curious as to the success of this set up. My question is how did you orient your 2x4 box? When I have them growing 1x4, I grew them east/west (ie more or less get the same amount of am/pm sun). I want to plant 2 x 4 rows of tomatoes this year too, but and going back and forth between growing them east/west or north/south. I'm leaning towards going north/south with my 2x4 plantings b/c the eastern plants will get morning sun and the western plants get pm sun and I think this way has minimal shading of the northern most plants. In addition, beefsteaks don't do too well when they flower and it's >95F supposedly (and we get runs of >95F here in the Sacramento area), so if those get am sun, I may have more success and they will be shaded from pm sun by the cherry type growing on the western side. However, if I decide to go east/west, I'm envisioning bending my trellis like yours to grow the northern plants and using either cages or stakes for the southern plants. Thanks in advance for your advice!
