Hi! I'm Cortney from southern Wisconsin. I'm a homeschooling, WAHM. I have 4 beautiful children who are ready to get in the dirt. Or should I say "Mix". Very Happy

I have always wanted to garden, but until this year, never had enough energy or gumption or time, among other things. I'm all gung-ho now. Last year we did plant a few tomatoes and green peppers and that was nice, but I want more.

I found an old copy of SFG at our local library book store. Picked it up for a $1, but could never really get into it. Let's face it: color, short paragraphs and lots of pictures really, really help the attractiveness of a book. So, when I found the NEW SFG at Farm N Fleet, I had to pick it up. I loved it instantly and realized that I COULD garden. I DID have the time! Without having to spend hours in a garden weeding and tilling, I could do this!! Mel really makes it sound too easy. LOL I love the part in the book about newbies being so accepting of this method because they ARE new and the experienced gardeners couldn't believe it....accepted it as a fad.

Our status right now: The kids helped me plant seeds in vermiculite in our mini-in-door greenhouse. The lettuce is already skyhigh and onions just starting to come up. It's funny how the greenhouse reeks of onions. LOL My husband is going to screw the wood together for 2 4x4 beds. We did have one 4x5 bed and it was 12" deep. So we cut it up a little bit to make 2 4x4x6 beds. I think that will be more conservative of the Mix! We have the peat moss, some compost and will be getting the vermiculite hopefully in 2 days. It's been so cold here this last week, we are all aching to get outside and play and work.

I'm not heavy into forum posting, but I love to lurk and learn. So you might not hear much, but I'm here.

THANKS Mel for my freedom in gardening!!

What a wonderful experience you have waiting for you and the kids.
Glad you are starting off right with the Mel's Mix, it makes the whole SFG method work and helps cut down on the work for you.

Lurk away, but do keep us posted on your progress. Let us know how you are involviong your children in SFG. We have several families who home school their children and I know they would be interested. We Love Pictures too.

Boy, I hope we do hear from you much. Welcome aboard!

You have come to the perfect supplement for your book imo. People here are friendly, share lots, and show off their gardens with their pictures, too.

Poke around the forum when time presents and you will see information to a lot of your questions. Indoor seed starting, lighting, transplanting, etc. All in there. If you don't find an answer....please ask. We are some very eager beavers around here.

Glad to have you. Hope to see you around soon.
