I love that barrel, Tshread...and the pretty base you put it on. Clever. Can you give us a photo of the connection at the top? Does it even connect to anything like a downspout or how is it fed? Also, is there a screen?

I haven't connected it yet. I'll post pics when I do.
Also I'm considering making a platform to go on top of the blocks with some 3/4 plywood I have leftover from making the bottoms for my beds. I'm not liking the plastic directly on the rough concrete blocks.
Yes there is a 16" round screen that looks to be high quality. Pics coming.

I've been reading up on what types of filtering, first flush, etc as I consider tying this barrel into my downspout. My roof is pretty open and free from leaves. I'm going to start with just cutting the downspout and running a flex drain hose into the tank. The built in screen looks like it will stop most all fine grit and three screws and its out to clean. I'll start with that and see how it goes. Here in Encinitas we get plenty of warning before a rain and especially the first rain in the fall I'll clean the roof and gutters prior with a blower.
