Petunias and Tomatoes...

It's still a little early for tomatoes here...but last year I read to plant petunias around tomato plants to help ward off the horn worms. Since I didn't end up having a garden, I passed the info. along to my parents who had great success (they don't do SFG...though they were the ones who recommended the method). Since we would only do one tomato plant per square, could I place petunias around them as well? I'm worried that planting them in the next square wouldn't be close enough to help keep the horn worms away...but I don't want to overcrowd the tomato plants either.

It may be worth a try. Petunias don't last long here in the heat, they get too leggy by June, but I'm going to stick some in my SFG here and there anyway.
