Comparison growing: On the left MM on the right Lasgana garden. I planted a number of things a few days before my vacation but DH did not bother to water it. So far all I have left are tomatoes, lima beans, some type of melon (6 of these plants were growing in with some thyme I bought - I am not sure what they will be Garden 1 month old Icon_biggrin ) Carrots and Cilantro. I have since replanted with radishes, lettuce, spinach, hot and sweet peppers, broccoli.

From l>r tomatoes, watermelon, cantaloupe, and celery. I have since added yellow wax bean and eggplant seeds.

The lettuce (about done) green beans and zucchini I planted amoung the lettuce before leaving for my vacation.

The corn in the selfwatering container started out better than the ones in the ground but have now lost steam. Tomatoes in the tire doing OK.

Corn in the ground about waist high now. I read about the 3 sisters garden before leaving on my vacation. I planted pole beans and zucchini before I left. They are comming up nicely a week later.

Container tomatoes all doing well, loaded with tomatoes. There are 3 varities here.

The herb garden. Filling in nicely

Can anyone help me identify this bug. It has killed my roses and is showing up on the tomatoes now. When I get close it jumps straight out making it hard to catch.

Finally have my lasagna garden on one half and Mel's Mix on the other half finished and ready for planting.

Herb garden out the back door. The pop up hamper is protecting some lettuce after I found a few critters munching away. This bed contains green onions, sage, oregano, thyme, basil, lettuce, spinach, garlic chives and cilantro.

Wow! You have been busy! You should have lots to eat even if some of it is a bit later.
I have to leave my gardens (and indoor tomatoes) to the tender loving care of my daughter and I am seriously worried about it. Can't quite decide if I should leave a list of what to water along with a map of where it is, or just phone every day and ask if she remembered Garden 1 month old Icon_rolleyes

Garden 1 month old Empty First tomatoes

Post  extremesoccermom 7/2/2010, 9:14 pm

It is always a big deal in St. Louis if you have tomatoes by July 4. I picked my first 3 today. They are cherry tomatoes (Husky Cherry and Golden Pear) but they are ripe and they are tomatoes!

Your garden looks GREAT!
That bug might be a flea beetle since it jumps like that, take a look at these pictures and see if it looks like any of them. flea beetle

Garden 1 month old Empty July 15 Update

Post  extremesoccermom 7/17/2010, 8:19 am

The garden has had some ups and downs with Japanese bettles, Plant hoppers, Squash bugs, and rats. Some plants are thriving but I have had very little fruit production.
Starting at the front of the house:
Daughters Marigolds, Carrots, and DH Cannas
Garden 1 month old DSC03941
An old drawer I was throwing away became a make shift planter. I doubt it will make it another year. The bucket is my experimental upside down tomato. The plant is strong but little. Dianthus is one of my favorite flowers and I found out this year they are edible. They are great in my salad.
Garden 1 month old DSC03940
Strawberry bed - my dad just brought me 20 more plants I started with 8. The rhubarb I planted has not shown up. I fear it and the black raspberry bush are both dead Garden 1 month old Icon_cry
Garden 1 month old DSC03942

The side yard:
Zucchini looks great but all no fruit even the ones I self pollinated only got to be 2 inches before dying
Garden 1 month old DSC03943
Garden 1 month old DSC03944
I checked the stem and even cut one of them open but did not find any sign of borer
Garden 1 month old DSC03946
Herb garden is doing great but it always does
Garden 1 month old DSC03931
The self watering tomatoes and potted tomato plant. We have had a very hot June and now July. Many flowers fell off without producing. The one in the barrel has 2 huge tomatoes, the others are cherry tomatoes which we have been harvesting 2-3 a day.
Garden 1 month old DSC03933
The corn has tassels. The arch is 9 feet. I was going to make a green house there but it is currently on hold. This is my 3 sisters garden. So far so good. I added the beans and squash about a month later than the corn.
Garden 1 month old DSC03934
The raised beds:
Celery, yellow beans, cantaloupe, watermelon, tomatoes. (no cantaloupe yet only male flowers so far. I have 4 watermelon the first one got the size of a golf ball and is not shriveling up). This one will be turned into a mini greenhouse for the fall and winter.
Garden 1 month old DSC03936
Lettuce going to seed (for a fall crop), zucchini, pole and bush green beans, bush lima beans and one tomato plant. Looks good but no beans yet.
Garden 1 month old DSC03935
Cucumbers (it looks like the one the right has been hit by bacteria wilt) Again so far only male flowers.
Garden 1 month old DSC03937
The experiment:
On the left Mels mix on the right Lasagna: so far the lasagna is winning. The net is up because of the rats but I think I will try to take it down this week as they have not taken any of the poison in over a week. The mystery squash appears to be butternut after some female flowers have started to appear but no fruit. Also in here are tomatoes, cilantro, carrots, spinach, cantaloupe, sweet peppers and lima beans. I have had trouble getting things to start from seed even after 2 rounds of plantings. I will be trying again in early Aug with a fall crop.
