I noticed on another thread acara had trouble gathering supplies at the end of the canning season and pondered just ordering supplies online. I wanted to share a site that I have ordered from (cake decorating supplies) from before, and their customer service it the best I have ever dealt with, and have yet to hear a negative comment from others I know that have ordered. They have tons of canning supplies, and all kinds of cool gadgets to help out.

And another site they recommend.

They also have books on canning.

Cool, Valerie!

Not online, but around here, I finally discovered that Shopper's Food Warehouse stocks canning supplies year round. The feed store has more overall variety (including pickling salts, small tools, labels and so forth), but Shoppers actually has more jar sizes, and for convenience it has the separate lids and bands, and they have pectins, too.

I want some of those plastic lids for jars I have opened, those look neat.

I have occasionally seen the plastic bands at K-Mart.

Walmart carries them as well. They are not always where you might expect them to be, so look around! Very Happy

I found all my canning supplies at Walmart last year. I actually had to tell the cashiers where they were. In my local 6 Walmarts that surround me (probably more than that now) they are usually over in the gardening area, still inside the store. I bought those plastic lids, well worth the investment. So much better than trying to use the sealing lid stuff.

The Walmart here, I asked for canning and they kept thinking I was asking for candy. Sigh. I have no interest in the plastic bands personally, no use for them, but if you are jarring for short-term use it is a great investment. Smile

Off the top of our heads, the hubby and I came up with 7 Walmarts within 30 minutes (max) of us. If at first you don't succeed, build another one down the street!

I love the plastic lids for using after we open up a jar off the shelf - once the jam is open Hubby HATES dealing with the 2-piece lid. He is sooooooo spoiled!lol!

Hm... I just lay the lid back on top in the fridge... or screw a regular band on if I'm worried about tipping it over and spilling everywhere. But I can see where it would be handy to have extra bands if you are short on those.

I love those plastic lids because I use my canning jars for refrigerator storage of things like homemade salad dressing, barbeque sauce, and leftover soup. I even freeze a few things like homemade soup, chili, and spaghetti sauce in the straight sided canning jars.

We have already opened about 30 1/2 pint jars of home (pressure) canned tuna since this fall, so I have lots of empty jars and don't mind using some for short term storage until it is time to can again.
