12*F and 4 inches of snow at my house this AM. How 'bout you?

I bet my lettuces, spinaches, and broccolis in the cold frames are icicles.

15 F and only 4 inches of snow.

My boxes didn't get done on time because my son has a new job. I also can't find strawberry plants anywhere! So I only have a couple of lettuces started indoors. I actually don't know what kind. My friend sent me some seeds and it's just called lettuce variety. So I don't really have anything to ruin. My daffodils look like the snow didn't affect them at all, hardy little buggers.

Two things, one I have a gardener from our church who is awesome and I am watching her FB posts to follow as well. She is starting a bunch but has a small greenhouse. I did read how you can make mini greenhouse out of clear 2 litre bottles for plants and I might try that outdoors. I also heard on the news this morning that for the next three months we are supposed to be colder than normal.

Is anyone changing or adjusting their schedules? Do you think we have maybe a couple more snow surprises coming?

We had a low of 30 degrees, our lowest this season. (only 6 or 7 frosts so far) Just a dusting of snow ( 0.1 in) after about 1/4 inch of sleet yesterday afternoon and evening. Today's high is supposed to be 39, with 15 to 20 MPH winds. I can see on the hills that surround our lake, that elevations just barely higher than ours got a bit more snow.

The forcast for tonight is 21 degrees, brrrrrrrrrrrrr so unusual for this part of the coast.

Nothing outside except some perennial herbs, lettuce and swiss chard on the semi-enclosed porch. It was 36 on the porch this morning at 6:00 am. Maybe it's a good thing I was lazy and did not get anything planted in my new SFG Table Top like I had planned.

Folks started saying last fall that we were in for a rough winter. I haven't seen it yet; maybe it's just late getting here! Two weeks ago I was outside in a T shirt getting sweaty; today, putting the winter gear back on is going to be depressing.

I always start planting seeds outdoors very early just in case we have a mild late winter. If they don't make it, nothing's lost. Your gardening friend will be good to watch to learn when it's safe to plant warm season crops. Starting them too soon and getting hit with a cold snap can be hard to recover from.

But I have to admit...it's a beautiful morning out there cheers

Everett is apparently the banana belt of Western Washington. It got as low as 29* early this AM. The Barometer is rising noticeably and it is currently a balmy 42* but there is an ever growing ice cycle hanging from a strawberry pot and the snow does not seem as if it is getting soft. The inch or two that is left is still dry and unsuitable for snowballs. Rudy is waiting until he cannot wait any longer before asking to be excused out the back door.

I did not think to check on my daffodils but I can see the leeks started last autumn from my kitchen door. I thought they were goners’ when I observed them at first light, coated in ice as if varnished by Jack Frost. I have often heard the elders say that you cannot kill a leek with a hammer. By 9:45 AM I got out to have a look-see.

Deborah.... actually getting out of the house today. I may have found a source for Rockwell (cranberry) beans that have been saved (and heirloomed) by the farmers wives of Coupeville. Hoping to score a few!

10 am and the temp has risen to 46 degrees, warmer than the forcasted high of 39, and inside my semi enclosed porch with the sun shining brightly, it is a balmy 57 degrees.

Need to get out and pick up my vermiculite so I can fill the remaining boxes under construction.

Most of the snow has melted and we just hit 29F. The cold East winds (15 degree wind chill according to the news) have already frozen this mornings fresh water for the animals.
The Alaska peas and turnips are fine (not covered).
I vented the hoop house from the west side for some fresh air since it will be closed again due to the forcasted teens tonight and I don't know if we will rise above freezing for the next day or so out here in East County. Oldest daughter's birthday is March 1st and I have seen snow and freezing weather on this date over the years so I am looking forward to winter being over and a bountiful SFG this year!
