Not new, but I've been away for a spell...
Just wanted to give my greetings to everyone here after being away from the forum for a spell. For the past couple of years, my day job has been just life in a pressure cooker. I'm a software developer, and have been working on a mountainous project. Lots of overtime and no energy for any of my pastimes, including gardening.
My project finally launched this past November, and now I'm out of the pressure cooker... I think. (Hope?) And now my thoughts turn back to gardening and other fun stuff to do in my newly-found spare time.
I see a few of the old gang I hung out with when I was here before, and a few others who have come along since then. I look forward to getting reacquainted with everyone here.
Cheers, Kate

Welcome back, Kate; I remember you.
Will you have a lot of catch-up to do? Mountain high weeds etc?
Look forward to your progress.

Hey, Kelejan, good to see you!Kelejan wrote:Welcome back, Kate; I remember you.

Funny you should mention weeds... I've never had problems with weeds in my square foot garden beds, but last year I was too busy to winterize my beds (top up with compost and cover with mulch). Then didn't plant or grow anything in them all during 2019. So yeah, that's how to create a weed farm from heck. I'm psyching myself up to charge out there as soon as the ground thaws and conquer that mountain!

Re: Not new, but I've been away for a spell...
I know how you feel, Kate. I was away for five weeks last summer and on my return I had a jungle to tame. I never did get through it all except to be able to weed and cover some SF beds with black landscape fabric. The "lawn" was about 12 inches high and it took several mowings, lowering the blades each time. This is when I realise I have too much to do and not getting any younger.
I do not need to feed the world, only grow enough for my own needs, and sharing when I want to.

Oh I know... I had a few occasions when I had to mow the lawn twice in succession at different blade heights. Too many weekends at work, or when it's raining (but of course, there was beautiful sunny weather during the week when I'm normally at work). I love the work I do, but it's time to get out of the rat race and start living a little.Kelejan wrote:The "lawn" was about 12 inches high and it took several mowings, lowering the blades each time. Welcome back CK. I too have taken a hiatus from the forum and the gardens, but am hoping to do more in 2020.
