It is HOT here in the summer and my soil is heavy clay and rocks.
I tried a long raised bed once, it is now a flower and shrub bed.
This square foot method sounds like it might be more manageable.
I am looking forward to reading about your experiences and learning just how to do this.
cheers,
Paul

Howdy from Central Texas Empty Welcome, Paul

Post  ander217 Fri Nov 26, 2010 8:36 am

Good to hear from you, Paul. We live in Missouri but we are currently in Austin visiting our daughter, so we could be temporary neighbors. Smile

We have an area of our garden that is over an old roadbed and we never could grow anything worth a flip in that corner. We placed our first SFG box there this spring and from it we harvested cabbage, broccoli, carrots, onions, parsley, green beans, kohlrabi, celery root, lettuce, and enjoyed a square of pansies. All from what was formerly nearly wasted space.

Our daughter asked for her first SFG boxes for Christmas and we are setting them up this weekend. Do you have any recommendations for crops that could be grown in the winter in the Austin area?

Keep us posted on how your garden grows.

glad you\'re here
