Camprn,

Ooh, I love this cloche! And from my local OSU extension, no less! Perhaps (with a bit of help) I could build one for next winter.

My first greenhouse is made by securing cattle panels to a 6'x8' box and then covering with greenhouse film. The film lasts here 4-5 years. Greenhouse film Farmtek is also a good source for all sorts of greenhouse bits and pieces.

For those who dream BIG. This greenhouse is a whole ecosystem. It is 30+ years old now. Organic, nothing added each year but some kitchen scraps.

This is great! I have the remains of a shed my neighbors son's tore down to build a bmx track in her backyard; while she was away. And I have been picking up windows from the sides of the road for a while now. My wife just shrugs every time I come home with more junk but I tell her I have a plan. I got a storm door the other day and have been measuring all of the other refuse I have collected. I managed to get about 18 two by fours 8 foot long and plan on building my walls based on 8 foot long by 6 foot wide. The biggest brain-cramp I am having is about the flooring and that would be build it with a floor or on the ground?

I'm sorry you will have to wait much longer than we zone 8A folks...

I have 4 or 5 cilantro plants that are about 6 inches right now.  They are a couple months old and are growing in my greenhouse.  Once the days get longer they should take off and my fresh salsa garden will be complete!

Effective snow maintenance throughout the winter season is an artform. And a lot of work.

Actually I was recently told how important snow removal was, in that there have been people killed in these structures as well as the ones that have cars in them when the snow gets so heavy it collapsed the whole thing...
So keep the snow off, at least too much   lots o

Found this today.  We who live north and experience short growing seasons might like to take a look at this.  I won't do it cuz I'm too old but you young ones might like to consider it.

I was enjoying rereading posts from this thread. I'm happy to say my tent style greenhouse has been a great blessing. We enjoyed tomatoes until well into March, bell peppers all winter and even some Japanese Eggplant managed to ripen very slowly over the long winter.

This summer we bought a professional greenhouse cover that keeps it cool while letting in the sunlight. It is just slightly warmer than the outside temps even in 100+ days of intense sun. This has allowed us to plant that area as normal with an eye to what we will want to grow during the winter. They key is having the plants already growing so you're harvesting during the winter.

Thanks. Hubby came through again. It was my first year raising monarchs and things got out of hand. This outbuilding was a 6x12 chain link fenced dog kennel from the previous owners of our property. Hubby had already given it a new floor and a new roof, but we were just using it as a tool shed. In 5 days we turned it into a sealed, safe butterfly house and raised roughly 100 monarchs in it. Naturally, when the butterflies were gone, it became a heated, lighted, greenhouse.  cheers

Post  trolleydriver 11/28/2016, 3:12 pm

As they do every winter, these temporary garages/carports are popping up on driveways in my area. I've often wondered if I could get one and turn it into a greenhouse/hoop-house. And after doing some Internet searches I've found a number of videos and instructional articles on how people have done just that.
