Anyone else get that freak storm across Central FL today ???

I got absolutely decimated (but only down the corner/back of the yard).

Container & Beefsteak tomoatoes got wiped out, container plants toppled & all over the yard, etc.

Silver lining ..... Frankenstein SFG took it like a champ & I just had some minor pruning & retying to do on the yellow pear tomatoes. I also lost a couple quarter-sized bell peppers, but the bigger stuff is OK.

Stanley made it through unscathed & I didn't even lose a cuke.

Rest of the yard got laid flat ..... reason #101 why trellising plants is the only way to go ....LOL

Acara,

Yikes! Sounds scary, and I am glad it seems you are safe.

I don't know this personally, but I've seen several experienced gardeners say it around here, so I will repeat it: Even if it seems like a plant has been shredded by weather, give it a chance. It may take some time, but it could surprise you by coming back and doing better than ever.

Good luck dear! flower

Thanks for the concern ... all is well here.

Luckily I had some hormone rooting powder & capped cutting tubes in my orchid box and was able to salvage some cuttings from the beefsteaks.

As luck would have it ...neighbor came out with his recycling tub for pickup tomorrow & I grabbed a couple of bottles to temporarily transplant into.

I'll be able to get the cuttings into pots over the weekend.

Well I got another bad wind "storm" yesterday.....kinda ....

Got home and the wind was blowing strong and "wierd" (changing directions quickly);

Sure enough, when I got home, my plants were beat to all heck.

As I'm hauling out the ladder, ties, snips & other tomato repair apparatus, I hear sirens.

Fire trucks, police, ambulance ????

I walked out to the front yard and then saw TV news trucks and Pasco County Sheriff vehicles(I live on a cul-de-sac in a small airport community ....not a lot of traffic).....

Appears I wasn't the only one having problems at the moment Very Happy

I spoke with some of the pilots on my street (think I'm the only guy who lives here and doesn't own a plane or fly) & they said they have been seeing a lot of erratic gust and wind shear for the last month.

Not sure if it has anything to do with the plane wreck yesterday, but it's sure wrecking havoc with my plants.

But I guess I'd rather be patching up plants than calling my insurance agent about a plane on top of my car No No No

HERE is the article (and better pics than my cellphone) on the plane coming down.

Cars were unnoccupied & the pilot crawled out of the plane under his own power.... so I guess it all ended as weel as could be expected

Think I'm gonna cry ....

1 step forward, 2 steps back.

Freaky wind came (again) with the cold front yesterday & I came home thinking I was the victim of a "plantnapping".

Stanley got tossed completely out of the bed, everything was completely sheared/snapped above the trellis lines (minor) and the wind actually shifted the vines on the trellis to the opposite sides (kinda like pulling a shower curtain to one side).

Looks like a full day of "recovery" is on the books for tonight ......

I need to find a small oil executive to sacrifice, in order to appease the nature gods ....or something 🐱

Good heavens -- you sure there aren't any witch shoes sticking out from under that plane? Sounds like Dorothy landed her Cessna on the Wicked Witch of the West.

Hope it's all fixed soon.

(heh. From your photo and description, I could drive to your house -- a girlfriend of mine took flying lessons at that field, so I've spent a *lot* of time in that area!)
