Compost is where you find it.
Howdy Folks:
Today Mary and I took our dog to the groomers (first time in my life to do something like that) and hello, what do I see? Goats. And what else is there? A nice pile of almost finished goat compost. A quick intro to the owner and a "what you gonna do with dat stuff in the pile there" question. Answer, "We have all we can use you want some"?. Now how could I resist a free 1/2 truck load of finished (almost) compost. This fall will find an even better blend of composts to go into our SFG.

God Bless, Ward and Mary.

Nobody has a better nose for free compost/compostibles than you, Ward! Given what goats eat, I wonder if anything unusual is in the output?
Re: Compost is where you find it.
That is a good question, Boffer. I used to live next door to goats whose fence was in disrepair.....everything they say about them is true!

We used to raise dairy goats. I loved them. Well a friend's goat had got into her garden and ate her tomato plants !!! Ok she didnt think anything of it, until they drank her milk a day later!!! My friend said she spit that out so fast and had to use spoons full of peanut butter to rid the taste. Now being picky about the milk I freaked and made sure those goats were always eating good oats !!!

This is a nice find, to say the least. I am a typical city sleeker, and can't muster my courage to post on our company's forum that I will get their rabbit poop off their hands. Too embarrassed, though I am very close to doing it anyway! It just can't be that out of 2500 employees noone keeps the rabbits at home...

My name is junequilt, and I'm a compulsive composter.
Got a truckfull of leaves? A pile of horse hockey? Grass clippings? Even cardboard boxes are grist for the compost mill.
DH gets mad at me sometimes because I bring home what he thinks of as other people's garbage, but it all cooks!
I'm thinking it's time to pay the South Carolina Farmer's Market a visit and pick up a couple sacks of lima bean pods!

Re: Compost is where you find it.
One's man garbage is another man's compost. I am a terrible scavenger, although I did locate a barn where I can have all of the horse pucky I can dig myself. AND found a commercial maker of compost where I can go pick up a half a yard for $10 - no truck so they will dump it in a pile and I have to bag and load myself. I was going to do that this week but the temps have shot well thru the 100s so decided to wait. Being this excited about it does speak to an addiction, I am sure.

I can see it now....
You have rabbits.
They poo.
I want your rabbits' poo!
No, it's not what you think.
In return: Garden-fresh maters!
Re: Compost is where you find it.
Yes, something like that ... now you see how it can get a little "stinky" ?
Re: Compost is where you find it.
I used to volunteer at the Humane Society, and they had bunnies, birds and guinia pigs, as well as the cats and dogs. I wonder if that might be a possible souce of poo? They might be happy for a volunteer to clean cages.

Just remember - poo from meat eaters is a no-no. Be sure guinea pigs, rabbit, etc are separate from dogs and cats poo-wise.

Not at all. I do not remember their name, but I know where they are. The place is in Menifee (I think - these towns around here confuse me).
From Temecula: 215 N to Scott Rd (it is just a few miles N of the 15/215 split). Go West on Scott to the first right: Haun. Take a right on Haun and it is about a block down on the right. There is an entrance to a nursery and this place. They sell compost, rock, topsoil, etc. so you will see piles of the stuff and that is the place.
Compost
Thanks Chopper, Ive seen that place before and did not know it was open to public? I thought maybe it was just for bulk orders like for landscaping contractors. Thanks again for the tip.
There was a place on Clinton Keith off the 15 across the gas station there on the corner that I got horse manure for free before. If it is still there they have bags sitting out to take. Thanks for sharing, hope you are doing ok in this heat !
