I'm so excited i hit the jackpot today- no $$$ involved Icon_bounce , i stopped @ a local produce stand to pick up some corn, cukes, and onions. as i was leaving something made me think to ask what they did with their bad produce. they said they take it back with them then dump it. i asked if i could have it for my compost pile and i left with 3 large boxes of corn, 3 watermelons, a large box of peaches, a few small containers of berries, a cpl onions and green bell peppers, and 3 cantalopes i hit the jackpot today- no $$$ involved Icon_cheers i hit the jackpot today- no $$$ involved Icon_cheers i hit the jackpot today- no $$$ involved Icon_cheers . plus i told them i'd take the scrap husks they had there which was 2 flats full. they appreciated not having to haul it off and i will be stopping back every weekend to get their "trash". i'm going to have some very happy chickens i hit the jackpot today- no $$$ involved Icon_monkey and a great addition to my compost pile.
plus alot of the corn isnt really bad. one end is a little icky but after its removed there is at least 3/4 an ear left, it's actually some beautiful bi-color with nice fat juicy kernels. so i'm going to compost the bad parts and freeze the rest. i hit the jackpot today- no $$$ involved Icon_cheers Yay!!!! i hit the jackpot today- no $$$ involved Icon_cheers this was a great find. oh and i went to a local flee market and found a really nice old pitch fork for 10$, so i can really turn my pile better now. anyhow just had to share my good find with someone!!!!

That is awesome! And who knows, you might get some great volunteers out of that, next year.

What a deal! I'm extra jealous of the pitch fork. I don't have one and keep balking at the $30 price tag, but am watching for them at yardsales. i hit the jackpot today- no $$$ involved Icon_biggrin i hit the jackpot today- no $$$ involved Icon_biggrin till then, my pile will just keep growing and doing the natural thing...

You go, :nurse: kat. There's nothing better than 'free' to use in the
garden. Whether you use it as chicken feed, compost, or looking
for volunteers-you can't go wrong!

good job!

I LOVE scoring an awesome deal! A free awesome deal is even better! I went to Lowe's the other day for a citronella plant and for the heck of it asked of they had any pots they were throwing away. I walked away with 4 nice pots and 2 clearance perennials marked down an extra $1.50 (final price $5 original price $15). cheers
