How do I water my potatoes? Empty How do I water my potatoes?

So, this might seem like a silly question, but I just thought of it today as I was checking on things in my garden. I need to finish covering my taters, and I have been using peat moss to do so. How do y'all go about making sure your plants are getting enough water once they are all covered? Should I put in a few vertical pvc pipes to help channel the water down? Or do you just water really, really well on the top surface (peat moss seems to kinda keep the water in one place...)? How do all you other tater-growers do it? And just how much do taters need to be watered? Also, is 12 inches of coverage enough for Yukon Golds? I'm trying to figure out if I should add another 6 in. riser on my spuds. Thanks in advance for any advice! How do I water my potatoes? Icon_smile

I have a drip system so the watering is right at the ground level. I have watered from above before and the water got down in just fine. The problem is the chance of disease is greater if you get the leaves wet.
PVC to channel it down sounds like a good idea.
You are covering your potatoes with peat moss? Keep in mind the if peat moss gets dry it repels water so that makes watering things more difficult. I cover mine with leaves or straw and that has worked great.
I keep covering my potatoes (except just the top leaves) until they quit growing do to frost or me killing them when I harvest. I would expect them to grow taller than 12". I would say at least 24".
I just use a deeper box and then eventually place a wire cage around them and fill it with the leaves or straw.
As far as how much water that is hard for me to say but if they are wilting a bit I water them. No problem this year because of frequent rain.
