Hi Everyone,

We are square foot gardening for the first time this year, and everything is going well.

In the past, we almost always lost our peas, beets, and beans to rabbits. Last year we successfully kept them away with bird netting in a regular row garden.

The plants are all getting pretty tall in the SFGs. We thought we'd read that rabbits will stop eating plants when they get big enough, but we don't want to risk losing them if that's not the case. (because there's a lovely mama rabbit who loves to visit).

Do any of you know if this is the case? We're open to any other suggestions too.

Thanks!

Leonard - my pea problem is deer. Apparently peas are their favorites in my neck of the woods. So mine are staying covered up until I eat them. I should be able to harvest a few this weekend. Woo Hoo!

My friendly neighborhood rabbits are now enemies. I hope they don't team up with the voles, or they will eat it all.

Rabbits ate all 6 cabbages except one, and about 8 broccoli plants. I put up a fence / deer net to keep them out. Some of my plants recovered, some were eaten off at ground level.

I would leave them covered, unless you have enough to share.
