Sugar Pumpkin MIA
I went out to water my sugar pumpkin this morning and all I found was a hole in the middle of the container that I had planted it in. I don't think it had even had a chance to sprout yet. I don't seem to have much luck with sugar pumpkins. Maybe it's just not meant to be.
Anyone have any idea what might have stolen it? Raccoon, squirrel, chipmunk?
Is it worth it to try and plant another or is it too late in the season now? Maybe I'll go to the garden centre and see if I can find a starter plant and put something around it to protect it.

I feel your sorrow... My bush beans were attacked on the first night after sowing. It's bird netting for me from now on . I think those are chipmunks.

all the above could be the culprits! I haven't even gotten my squash/pumpkins in the ground from seed yet
Re: Sugar Pumpkin MIA
I'm so sorry for your loss. Last year I lost all of my sugar pumpkins - leaves & all! I blame the deer. This year I haven't even started them yet. I wait until late June-ish so they are (hopefully) ready at Thanksgiving. I will be covering mine this year! I say try again.

Re: Sugar Pumpkin MIA
Thank you everyone! I may just try again. The first time, I broke my seedling, now the little critters got the new plant. I agree that it's probably the chipmunks. We have a family living somewhere in our backyard. I see them running around all the time. They're brave little things too. I had one run right under my chair while I was out sitting on the deck!
What's the best thing to keep chipmunks out of the container?
Here's a pic of my pumpkin setup:
