Hi All,

How do you know when carrots are ready for picking. I have some that are 3-4 feet tall, they now have bloomed with flowers. It has been 3 month since I palanted them. I did pull up one of the tall one and nothing there.

Should there at least be a carrot or something there already?

Have a happy day gardening.

Do you see the carrot "shoulders" sort of peeking out of the soil anywhere? Try one of those, if you've got some. Or try pulling a couple more. Mine are still very small (I planted them late), but I had a hard time telling them from weeds to start with.

Hi Megan-I tried that and I did not see anything except for roots. It has been 3 months since I planted them.

You know what guys. I found this homemade remedy for pests in the garden that consist of grinded onions, garlic clove, red pepper and dish washing liquid. I made it according to the direction and sprayed it on my plants and I notice today that they are all dying. I am so sad. If I would have know this would happen I surely would have not done it.

Word of caution is to be very careful about what you read all the time. My squashes, peas, bean and all other are limp, curl up hard leaves. Does this mean I need to start my garden all over?

Thanks for lending a listening ear.

Where are you located? Interesting that they went to seed that fast. I've over-wintered, in the ground, carrots that were too small to pick in the fall. The plant started growing in very early spring, and ended up just as you describe. The carrots themselves didn't grow at all, and didn't taste very good. I took a few pictures and tore them out

Wow. That is quite a slideshow, and what wonderful helpers you have there!

I am really sorry to hear about your troubles... can you post some pictures of the affected plants? What kind of dish soap did you use? I don't have much input other than that except to weep with you, but maybe someone else can suggest something.

boffer-I am from N.W. Florida in the Panhandles. I started my garden in Feb. I had many transplants that needed to be in ground and so I put them out around the first week in Feb.

I was lucky, we had not frost after planting them. I will send pictures later on as to what my garden look like after spraying it. At least I will no not to do this portion again. Maybe I will just pull it up and replant.

Click for the video that i made over the weekend.
