Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
In the 50s here and will get colder later today! I'm not going to do a single thing in my garden if I can help it. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's cold weather!
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
LOL! You'd better run before our Canadian friends read this. The California Coalition will certainly agree to 50 degrees being "cold" but the D *** Yankees on this forum may turn on you. This could get ugly!LilBittyBean wrote:In the 50s here and will get colder later today! I'm not going to do a single thing in my garden if I can help it. Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Slight improvement in the 10-day, but not much. Basically 40s-50s, mostly cloudy, lots of showers, a little sun here and there.countrynaturals wrote:Nothing to report here -- just cold and wet as far as the eye can see.
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
I hope our Canadian friends understand that I'm simply a fragile flower. (I've been to Canada twice and have loved it. Luckily for me, the weather was beautiful most of the time.) I don't tolerate cold very well, unfortunately.countrynaturals wrote: LOL! You'd better run before our Canadian friends read this. You can imagine how pleasant I was to be around when I visited my in-laws in New England over the holidays! It was 26 - 30° every day. I thought i was going to croak!

And, not just the Canadian D*** Yankees, but those of us here in the upper Midwest! 13ºF for the high today, with a wind chill of -6ºF! Yeah, it is cold out here! And, it is two months before the first day of Spring!

All kidding aside, do you still have plants in the cold frame? Will they make it?

Unfortunately, after this arctic blast passes through, most of the plants in the cold frame will be done. But, after a week of temps in the teens with winds at 30 to 50 mph, the soil in the cold frame can no longer keep them warm enough to survive. Fortunately, when they predicted this arctic blast coming in, I went out and picked all of the Lettuce and Spinach.
The next function for the cold frame will be in early March when I start the Kale, Chard, and Spinach seeds for transplanting into the beds.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Bitter cold here obviously too. OG, keep me posted on the Regional when you plant your cold frame; I have a new one that I am siting early spring!

Temps inching up just a bit, but still nothing but rain and clouds. The sun is still AWOL.
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Cold start, but seasonal by afternoon and 36* on my drive home, not much wind!

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Dark and rainy for 4 more days, then there's a slim chance of an early spring.
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Wasn't supposed to freeze last night. Weatherman said so. So, why is there a block of ice in the wild birds' water? Hmmm?
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
A bright, sunny day, and 62ºF today here in SW Ohio.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Storms have moved through. (Tornado warnings in February??!!) Now VERY windy...
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
We got 4-1/2 inches of rain yesterday. Beds are soggy. Can't cut down cover crops to plant potatoes and peas. Oh well.

We had a bunch of wind but not too much rain. Other parts of NC had flooding and tornadoes...crazy!!!!

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Today has been very overcast , bitingly cold , strong knife edged winds that cut through all but the most windproof of clothing and a bit of sleet so far .
Spent about 40 min outside half of it in my open door garage, a bit of time checking every thing is tidied away for tonights Artic style storm & a few seconds pulling out six ANSFG winter carrots .
I ended up shivering , with chattering teeth so I came back into the bungalow , glad to be back in the warmth even though I'd had a pair of gardening gloves on my hands they were like blocks of ice . ( Alison was not amused .... when I showed her just how cold they were )
Just incase we do get a real snow storm overnight I've lit a 2 " candle as an heater in the glasshouse and said three , " Hail Mary's " .

We ended up with 4 inches of snow yesterday. Got above freezing yesterday afternoon, so it started the melt. My street looks clear this morning.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Here, in the British Columbia Southern Interior: Near the border with Washington State:
Cloudy, Temp -3C( rising to +4C this afternoon) Wind 7kph, Wind chill -6C, Some snow then clearing. Not too bad.
At the moment a bright full moon.
I am already noticing the longer daylight hours compared to the beginning of the year.
