The Infamous Zucchini
Yes, I know. It's little a early to be talking about summer squash, but I just read this on FB. https://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/2505

Re: The Infamous Zucchini
For me, zucchini is infamous because I seem to be the only one who can't get a decent crop. The first year I grew it (long ago in a traditional bed) I had a bumper crop, but every year since, even after a break of several years before starting SFG, the Squash Vine Borers have found it.
I plan to use a floating row cover this year to hold them off as long as possible. In addition to the type I've grown before I am also trying a vining variety - Squash Table Dainty - that reviewers indicated had some resistance to the SVB. I love zucchini and zucchini bread and with a big family we would use or freeze most all we could get.

Re: The Infamous Zucchini
Last year was the only year my zucchini crop was nearly non-existent. I suspect that some of the few seeds I planted were no longer viable.

Mmm garden fresh zucchini. It's so versatile. Zucchini boats and zucchini lasagna. Fried of course! Good on the grill too yum! I've seen recipes where people make chocolate zucchini cupcakes. Hmm why not!

Re: The Infamous Zucchini
I am planting my squash late this year—I forget where I read this. To out wait the SVBs, you wait them out. Squash (I grow my beloved patty pans!) will produce pretty late. I need to find out where I read the wait them out thing...hope I can find the source! Plan is to start seeds in June inside, pot up. Move into garden after something early has finished...and see!Kate888 wrote:For me, zucchini is infamous because I seem to be the only one who can't get a decent crop.
