I've been squarefoot gardening, sort of for 6 years. Working in two 8x4 raised beds for the most part.
I religiously followed Mel's soil mix and friends and neighbors always comment on the prolific way my little garden flourishes.

Having said that I overplant on tomatoes and the cherry tomatoes just seem to take over everything. I surely cannot keep just one plant per square foot. They are indeterminate variety.  Looking for good pruning suggestions.  Also have been battling powdery mildew every year and nothing seems to help even if I start out with early preventative measures. I only use organic treatments. So I'm hoping to find some expert answers to my plight.  Very Happy

Welcome from the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I am much newer to SFG than you, so I won't be giving you any expert advice, but I wanted to say hello.  I'm sure you will get some good answers here though. Are you saying that you plant more than one indeterminate per square or that you are having trouble containing one plant inside one square?  I wasn't sure which you meant.

happy hi and  glad you\'re here from Redding, CA. I don't have a powdery mildew problem, but our daughter does. We live on the same property and use the same gardening methods. How's that for micro-climates? Rolling Eyes

Hi Madar518! Welcome from Atlanta, GA.

On the p.m., are you using milk spray as a preventative? What kind of milk? (Skim, whole, etc)

Madar, Welcome to the Forum from California! glad you\'re here Regarding cherry tomatoes, it seems 4 square feet would be more accommodating, even planting them in the corners. Or, out of the beds in 5-gallon buckets. They just aren't very well behaved. Very Happy

Welcome, Madar, fellow Ohioan here!  Glad you found us!  I learned through trial and error that big vigorous indeterminants need 2 squares to be healthy and allow access to the plants, to pinch and harvest and control pests and watch for disease.  My new 3x7' bed was planted with all tomatoes.  Right now, Guns and Roses "Welcome to the Jungle" plays every time I go near.....

I am going to up the spacing on my tomatoes.

As for the PM, if you start spraying your PM prone plants (for me, it's melons and squashes) early with milk spray (must re-apply after rain, etc.) it really works great!  I use a 1/2 and 1/2 water and whole milk version, but I have used more dilute when I was running short on milk!

In the upper left hand box is a search bar, lots of info and experts on here!

Again glad you\'re here

Oh yeah, wander over to the North and Central (N&C Midwest) regional group's monthly thread to see what other midwesterners are up to!
