Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
California is boycotting winter this year. It's 72 out right now, and still nothing below the mid 50s in the 10 day forecast.
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
It's still cold.
AND windy.
AND windy.

Absolutely frigid!
It's warming up on Thursday - just enough to dump another 6-9 inches of snow on us.

Hi ST!!! Good to hear from you. Sounds like you are getting a "real" winter down in the Maritime Provinces.SwampTroll wrote:Absolutely frigid!

Here in Ottawa the "extreme cold warning" has been lifted by Environment Canada. Currently we are at -22C (-5F) with a windchill of -30C (-22F). Expecting a high today of -13C (9F). Also expecting up to 4 cm of snow.

This is a new low for me, it used to be -22°F (-30°C), now it is -25°F (31.6°C), BUT, no wind.
I am feeling for you TD and ST, stay warm.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
My high temp was 27F today. We've had quite a lot of freezing fog this winter, and the current accumulation is rather pretty. More is expected overnight. Still waiting for significant snow.
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Yeah. It was -8 this morning on the way to work. Now, not sure, but I am cold here in my tv room and thermostat is at 68F....

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
About 5 days ago my strawberries were blooming and we were expecting some cold weather, so I cut off all the blooms, and put shredded leaves on bed. Day before yesterday, a few of the plants were blooming thru the leaves.
Well, it got down to 17 deg last night, and started snowing about 10am. It has just now quit and we got 5 1/2 inches of SNOW! High of 27 today.
Got some good pics, now I have misplaced the transfer cable, will post some when I find it.

My strawberries ain't doin' nuthin', nohow! I'll be looking for a different variety as soon as they're available. These are called "Farmer's Favorite" or something like that. What are yours?littlejo wrote:About 5 days ago my strawberries were blooming and we were expecting some cold weather, so I cut off all the blooms, and put shredded leaves on bed. It's raining here -- finally.
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
It is funny (NOT) how nobody mentioned "Blizzard" in weather forecasts. I can barely see across the field, it has "warmed up" to 20°F (-6.6°C) (Oh yeah, a real heat wave...) and they have not really committed to estimating how much we are going to get. They keep giving such a large range that it is almost useless. The wind direction changes from S to N then back again so often, it is unreal.
I filled ALL of the bird feeders yesterday, work called and said stay home, the wood stove is hummin", the coffee tastes good, lunch will be grand, and I think I am going to take a Midday,Blizzard, stay in my toasty bed NAP!
Maybe that will adjust my "attitude" a little...

Now they say blizzard! We currently have visibility to about 150 yards (137m) with rapid wind direction changes.

Joe Bastardi at www.weatherbell.com called your current weather back in October. He uses analogs to help with his predictions.
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
CountryNaturals, I got the strawberries from Burgess last Feb. Sure Crop, Honoye, Festival , Sparkle, Ozark Beauty, Quinault, Allstar, and Festival was in both collections. June bearing and everbearing. They are the best looking plants I've ever had.
Our weather man told us about the hurricaine type storm and they sent up the hurricaine hunters airplanes up into the "winter storm" but we did not get the winds here, just the snow!

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Thanks, Jo. I'll look into them. It has been raining for over 24 hours, here -- nice, gentle drizzle. We really needed it. Hopefully the rest of the state got some, too.littlejo wrote:CountryNaturals, I got the strawberries from Burgess last Feb. Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
I usually don't mind the cold but when its 1° out and the heat dies in your truck and your working on it with 30mph in the shade... it kinda sucks!
hoping my rosemary makes it.
I have a fluorescent light under here thats on 24/7 by the base of the plant.
6° this morning.
At least my idea on a deicer is working this year.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
The weather man on TV said Ottawa felt colder than the North pole today!
The forecast for this evening and tomorrow is for windchill of minus 40c (that happens to be -40F as well). This is crazy cold.

Arp is the hardiest rosemary.
It is ARP but only good to 20° I grew this from seed and overwintered last year.
Keeping my fingers crossed as I grew attached to it.

OK, I won't say anything.
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
My first two rosemary died over the winter - not sure what varieties. My third try (Arp!!) I overwintered twice: once under a 7-gallon bucket, and once using a WallOWater. But it got too big for those, and I didn't trim it back when I should have. I have it wrapped in agribon under a big plastic tote, and have my fingers crossed... but I'm going to be surprised if it made it through -12*F even with the protection. It should be warm enough here for me to take a peek later this week.SQWIB wrote:donnainzone5 wrote:SQWIB,

Yeah, I don't think that'll happen. But it'll come back next year, and give you seeds ta boot.
My weather is the same as yours for this week.
