Hi all. I  love watching things grow magically from seed. I did not like vegetables until I grew them myself in a garden and discovered how good they taste.  I like trying different gardening methods. I have a small yard in the city so I must be frugal with my space.  I love Michigan and the wonderful 4 seasons we have.  I live in northern lower Michigan so the late cold springs are a challenge for me.  I look forward to learning gardening tips from others.

Hi Alice16! Welcome from Atlanta, GA. Glad you've joined us!!

You'll find that SFG takes up a lot less space than traditional methods. Along with less water, etc. Many of us also utilize buckets, pots, pallets, etc. for smaller space gardening as well.

I'd recommend 2 things: 1. If you don't have it already, go to the library & get the All New SFG, 2nd Edition book. Read it thru a FEW times.

2. Take a look thru the archives... There's a LOT of good, hard-won info there for the gleaning!

Ask questions. We're here to help you succeed!!

Alice, Welcome to the Forum from California! glad you\'re here I also have a small city back yard and SFG is absolutely perfect for it. I have 107 sq ft tucked here and there. I also use 5-gal buckets for some of the tomatoes and potatoes, and storage tubs for sweet potatoes.

Thanks for the nice welcome from all of you Smile    I look forward to trying out some of the ideas here and reading all the books on this type of gardening.  I had hubby build a cold frame for me last year from 4 old storm windows. Just need to put a hinged top on it this spring. I will be ordering seeds soon to have ready to start them.  I am excited to try the pvc watering grid system  I saw on site here today.  Just need to get hubby busy building it Smile   We built one oblong raised bed to use this year  but now want to build a few small square beds also.
It is in the 20's here but my brain is already thinking spring planting.  carrot
