Greetings from Southwest Louisiana!
HI ALL! I'm happy to have found this forum and look forward to reading and learning. I gave myself and several chums the 2nd edition Square Foot Gardening book as Christmas gifts and I can't be more excited to begin!
A tad over 6 years ago, I was injured, working as an RN. My surgery only fixed me so much, (I can now walk) and my treating physician has said absolutely NO GARDENING!!! I've been on plant probation for SO LONG! I can't wait to show him SFG and have him say that it's ok for me to get my hands full of soil again. I am very excited my husband and daughters have volunteered to build my boxes on tables (which came from a nursery) and begin planting and harvesting in my garden boxes without bending.
My life as a nurse has ended but this technique of gardening is making me excited about caring for my soon to be plantlife. I feel the need to nurture and this is right up my alley! I am blessed to live in an area which has a really long growing season to boot!

Re: Greetings from Southwest Louisiana!
Hi, Teresa! Welcome to the Forum from California! SFG is wonderful for folks with limitations. It depends on your specific limitation. Several of us have something that doesn't work as well as it did when we were young. Bless your family for helping build the beds.
I love table top beds - several of mine are 2' high for this height-challenged woman. I made the Mel's Mix standing at a picnic table, one cement pan at a time. I live in a year around area, Region 8B-9A, and it is nice to have something fresh from the garden, year around.

Welcome from another Louisiana gardener! If bending is an issue you may want to look at table tops or build the beds taller.
The good thing about gardening in LA is that we have a long growing season. I was still getting Bell peppers last week with the higher than normal temperatures!
Here is a good link from the LSU Ag Center for growing Veggies in LA and other useful information:

Welcome Teresa from Ohio! Here, we are dormant, so alot of us are watching other areas and living vicarious gardening existences until we can start our seeds....soon, Igor, very soon...LOL.
Glad you are better after your injury, and table tops (TTs) will be great for you!
Did you ever do any type of gardening before? When you get started, post pictures, we love pictures!
Once again,
