Invasion of the Garlic Blob
Last night when I went snail hunting I found some spongy white stuff on the soil by one of my garlic plants. I dug it out and discarded it and then kicked myself for not getting a picture. This morning I found some brown stuff around the same plant. I dug it and some excess out and then the one garlic plant and discarded them both. I replaced the soil with some fresh.
Below is a picture. Not as clear as I'd like but I had to use my cell phone b/c my camera is broken. Let me know if anyone recognizes it and if I should pull out all the dirt now and throw it in a kiln!

Re: Invasion of the Garlic Blob
I had something like that grow in the mulch between my boxes. It's called...Slime Mold. It looks like something a cat regurgitated. There are many different types, but most grow in rotting wood. It changes color as it matures, so it's probably a good idea to remove it when it's whitish. It's not harmful, just gross-looking! Once it turns brown, the spores are ready to spread -- ask me how I know!

Never ID'd it buy I believe pattipan. I removed it and hept the bed a bit drier and it never returned so I am ok with it!
Re: Invasion of the Garlic Blob
We bought the cheapest of cheap mulch to put bewteen the boxes, some of it was near compost. I could have made a photo gallery on just the fungus & mushrooms that grew in it, but I was too busy fighting bugs and picking produce.

Pattipan,
I went to the avatar link this morning and saw that beautiful garden picture you posted there. I believe it when you say you were busy picking produce!
And you can't blame the bugs! I would have been at that buffet eating, too if I had been a bug!
It's raining here and I can't get outside to play, so I'm catching up on the posts here and trying to inhale knowledge for later use. It seems you have a lot of secrets for success with a garden like yours. Would you share your tips with a first timer?
Thanks,
Betty

I posted my tips (such as they are) in another thread in my Upper South section:
https://squarefoot.forumotion.com/upper-south-f8/a-few-sfg-tips-thoughts-t4542.htm#36324
I didn't want them to get swallowed up by the "garlic blob."
