Does mowing grass between rows cause problems?

I am just starting out with SFG and am wondering about mowing between the boxes. It seems that it would shoot a bunch of grass and grass/weed seeds into your boxes. Wouldn't you not want that to happen??? Or maybe it doesn't hurt anything. Quick help would be appreciated! I really need to get my boxes placed and filled up.

I never found any problems. But, I know that is it a pain to mow and weedwack in small areas like ours was. So we laid down more weed barrier and mulched around the boxes. problem solved.

I am facing the same weedwhacking issues. Just trying to figure out how to make it all look good / make sense. Ugh.

I'm interested in attractive, inexpensive solutions too. Our landlord mows our acre Smile

but I don't want to make it difficult for him. And I don't have the equipment to do it myself if he leaves the garden area alone.

We do all our own mowing... I've just got awkward strips of grass between established beds and the new SFGs, plus between one SFG and the remaining grass. That last is going to get overrun with squash/etc.... just trying to figure out how to manage it all, if possible. (In the past, it meant a grass-whacking break for the hubby!)

Is wood mulch an option?

I think mulch may be my only option, actually. It will mean ripping out almost all of our lawn, though!

My husband and I were just talking about this b/c we added new boxes... just today! Our plan is to put down decorative patio type bricks between all the beds do the entire area is either brick or garden. Here is a picture of our newest additions Smile

Here is a gorgeous idea, can you see the path in the background? Her husband use cement and a form, both are available at any big box.

There should not be a problem with grass clippings getting in your beds unless you use synthetic fertilizers or weed or pest control. You would not want those chemicals in your garden.

I use an edging tool around the boxes as I do not own a weed whacker. I have cut out the sod about an inch from the side of the boxes and left just enough room to get the push mower trough. I have a collection bag on the mower to collect the clippings so I can compost it all. I seriously need less lawn and more garden! :suspect:
