Re: Mid-Atlantic - April 2015
How did your tomatoes and peppers do last night? It got down to 35 here in Maryland, so I imagine it was colder up there in Pa. Same forecast for the next two nights.zackshea wrote:Haha yes I am worried! We are supposed to go down to 32 but it says the breeze and cloud cover will prevent frost. I have everything out, including peppers and tomatoes! I did it early because I don't have the room to repot in bigger pots indoors so I had no choice... I am gonna cover with bowls and straw but I am not sure the more tender plants will make it. I think the peas and onions will be fine. Good luck!

They survived, they seem OK. They didn't droop or turn yellow. It's gonna be colder tonight and tomorrow night. I covered them in old fall leaves and solo cups lol. After tomorrow night it seems the night time temp will stay above 40. I wouldn't have put them out this early but they were struggling in their small containers indside. I didn't feel like putting them in bigger pots and I don't really have the room indoors.

Even with the cool weather, my arugula and kale have started sprouting. With showers predicted a few times this week and some warmer weather, I'm hoping things will pick up a little in the garden this week.

Re: Mid-Atlantic - April 2015
I lost a cayenne pepper plant and a brandywine tomato plant. Not bad considering I have 30 pepper plants and 10 tomato plants. The other plants seemed to be ok, hopefully no long term stunting or damage. I did find about 5 white grubs while digging a new square for beets... That is a lot of grubs for one square foot! I am ordering nematodes today. They ate the roots of a couple of my onion plants

My sugar snap peas are now 12 inches high and my mouth is watering.....lol
My lettuces are coming up little by little along with my radishes.
I am sooooo anxious to plant my tomatoes, peppers and beans....
Zackshea - I just took a look at the website, mypatriotsupply.com. Their prices are amazing.

Yes, their prices are great! They have all sorts of survival gear and supplies also. I have had great luck with all their seeds.
I can't believe your peas are a foot high already! Mine are about half that, but they seem to be growing a lot each day. they are starting to get all tangled together so I have had to train them to lay on the ground and head towards the trellis. I can't wait for the first pod to eat!
My lettuce, spinach, and kale were growing sooo slowly for weeks, but yesterday they all of a sudden grew an inch. The weather looks really nice starting this weekend so I might go out and plant herbs near the house.

I'm jealous of your pea plants! Mine are just starting to sprout. The cool weather this past week has really slowed things down for me, but warmer weather will be here soon.
