I have this completed now, the glass from an old storm window fit perfectly into the opening of my new cold frame.
The other was to large to really bother with.
Since I had to dis assemble everything in order to raise the bed I thought smaller would be best.
When it gets warmer, I just slide out the glass and use it for warmer crops...

I like your new glass inserts.  Makes it so much better.
I find that plastic stretches inward when its covered with rain.  And its sometimes difficult to empty those puddles.  I, too, got glass panes to cover my old cold frame.  Makes a world of difference.  Good luck this year.

Very Nice Jimmycee!  You do such nice work. I would bribe you if you lived nearby. Smile

I have a thick piece of glass from maybe a dr's ofc or a bank. Dirt cheap from Habitat for Humanity Re-Store business.  I wanted thick glass in case my winter-fatty barn cats all hopped onto it.  But I don't have a simple box for it to sit on, yet.  Have lots of old cedar fence planks.  I need to play around and get this thing made  Smile

My neighbor has a piece of glass. 1 panel about 4 x 8 3/4 or 1 inch thick.
Last year a couple guys tried to move it, they both couldn't pick it up.
I think it's still there, over 40 years still standing...

Jimmy
This is much smaller than your description.  This looks like maybe(?) the sliding glass window a doctor's office receptionist might slide open to talk to you.  It doesn't look like it should feel SO heavy for its size. One of the men at the store carried it to my car and explained how to safely handle it without getting hurt since he was previously in a glass business himself.

No, these are just window panes from a 32 x 58 storm window.
The 2 are not the same size so I need to make an upper frame they will slide in...I think I'll just router a 1/2 inch hi slot and cut them to fit.. After snow has left

Pie, worm castings, llama manure, container of leaf mold, beef stew,  case of beer, I don't know, something like that for a nice finished cold frame, Lol.
