I'm going Bananas
No, not growing them, dehydrating them
.
Early this evening I was given the gift of 16 pounds of bananas just perfect for dehydrating, with the promise of 40 pounds more tomorrow.
Apparently a supermarket in town had a double load delivered by accident at the wrong time of the year. They were at the stage where the spots are just beginning to show, and they would have no way of selling them all before having to throw them out. You know how picky some customers can be if the bananas are not a perfect yellow.
Luckily the person who was given them knew that I was keen on dehydrating so offered me some. When finished, I will keep some for myself, share some with friends, and donate some to the food bank.
So far tonight I have finished processing eight pounds, chopped up all the skins for the compost heap (to be mixed tomorrow with fall leaves that I have ready bagged and shredded), cleared the sink, and all in 45 minutes. Tomorrow morning I will do the second 8 pounds and hopefully have the dehydrator cleared by the next morning to start on the forty. I have a feeling I will have to share unprocessed bananas with friends who can do their on hydrating.
Department of information; eight pounds of bananas produces three pounds of skins.
I am wondering if my friend is in over his head?
My friend with the bananas has ten boxes of 40 pounds coming. LOL

Re: I'm going Bananas
Banana chips, banana pie, banana bread, fried bananas, worm bins, smoothies. I don't think one family could process 400 pounds in one batch!!
Lucky you!

Re: I'm going Bananas
The second 8 pounds is finished and I have started on the 40 pounds that arrived this evening. I don't know how my friend and his wife are doing, but I am getting a teeny bit sick of the smell of bananas. Luckily I can keep the bedroom door shut tonight.
Jazz sleeps in the kitchen so he is stuck with it.
