Re: Seed Organizing Ideas
I store my seeds in plastic containers on a two shelf stand in my Family room. I have a small plastic container (4.5 x 5.5 x 10.5") for each of the following seed categories.
Peas
Beans
Cowpeas
Micro Greens
Corn
Cover Crop
Lettuce/Spinach
Flowers
Overflow
Multi Varieties
Here is the shelf unit I use to keep all my seeds. On the top of the shelf (not pictured) is my Aerogarden.
Here is one of the plastic containers (This one is where I store only peas - 9 different varieties). I keep experimenting trying to find the best variety to plant in spring and fall.
Here is the plastic container I started out with 5 years ago. I made a tab for each variety of vegetable. I eventually bought so many species/varieties that I had to have lots of containers. But I still use this container for the vegetables that do not require an individual plastic container (ie Cauliflower, Broccoli, Pepper, Turnip).

Re: Seed Organizing Ideas
Yolos, that's my next step once I run out of room in the floppy box.... Very Nice!!
Re: Seed Organizing Ideas
Currently, I store each variety (tomatoes, beans, etc.) in its own Ziploc bag, which is labeled accordingly. I have a box that a toaster came in, where these seed packs hibernate in the fridge until planting time.
Since that box isn't quite big enough for my entire seed collection, I keep some in Christmas cookie tins.
Each year, I make a list of each type and variety, with "use by" dates, manufacturer, etc.
When I start to run low, I buy another packet.

Re: Seed Organizing Ideas
Greetings, Sanderson!
I'm hoping to have a much more productive season this year. Last year was hampered by intractable, excruciating back pain and subsequent recovery from major surgery.

Re: Seed Organizing Ideas
Thanks, Sanderson.
I'm doing quite well, although I still feel a bit weak. These days, I have only a tad bit of low-back pain, which the doc says is of arthritic origin. Oddly, it's at the site of my original injury in 1976. The neurosurgeon has referred me to a specialist in pain management and sports medicine, who specializes in high-tech injections. He's even into stem-cell treatments, if necessary.
This season, I hope to do some skiing, which the docs think is okay.
Since I have a great deal of mixing compost and MM ahead of me this spring, I'm looking for more options to make the task easier. The simplest, of course, is to hire the neighborhood kids.... Otherwise, I can probably manage by making small batches of 1-2 cubic feet in the wheelbarrow.

Re: Seed Organizing Ideas
I make MM in a cement pan, set on top a picnic table, sliding the pan and dumping in a 33-gal garbage can on wheels. I hope your future treatments really help. My lower back and a sciatic nerve are making life less enjoyable so I can only imagine what you may be going through.
Re: Seed Organizing Ideas
So, if I understand correctly, you slide the cement pan back and forth in each direction until mixed, then dump?
I'm not in any serious pain now, but don't want to injure myself. Also, I am pretty weak.

sanderson wrote:Feb 16, 2018 Just saw this on the SFG Foundation Facebook page. I just printed out the black and white DIY seed packet. Now I can store the ziplock baggies from the seed exchange with commercial seed packets.

After cutting and pasting, I finally made up packets for my "new" seeds from the seed swap. This will let me store them with the commercial packets and not lose them in the bottom of the containers.
Re: Seed Organizing Ideas
My seeds live in a DirecTV box. It's big, sturdy, light-weight, the perfect size and shape -- also UGLY! Today, I was covering a long box in contact paper, to store Xmas wrap. I had a little left over, so here's what I did:
It won't win any blue ribbons, but it's no longer an ugly brown cardboard box.
We've lived here for months, but I never got around to finishing up the office/craft room because of all the ugly boxes. Now, since we're facing several days of rain, I'm going to get crafty and cover anything I can't hide, so it can be cute and cheery in there.

I've begun utilizing unused Christmas cookie tins. They're colorful in the fridge and stack easily.

I saw a little plus sign on the right side of this post, so I clicked on it It said "your vote has been cast" so I guess that's like a thumbs up.
