We used to get canning jars at our local second hand stores but with so many folks getting into home preservation that is not true any more.  I shop garage sales too.  Year round!  Usually you can find one here, another there.  A price of .10 each is a good price.  Just be sure to check the rims of the jars.  If there are no chips or cracks in the rims they should be good.  But OLD jars can be off sized.  So if you question the lid size, pass on the jar.

Even at a price of .25 each the dozen cost is only $3.00....
