One of your carrots looks like my first one, that I ate last week. I wonder why this happens?

Harvested a couple pints of strawberries and ate half of them while washing them. Oh my, these little morsels are sooooo good!

Marc, try planting some of the orach right now, it is an amazingly forgiving plant. True it is one of the first plants to sprout in my garden each spring so it does like cool soil.
Maybe I'll plant a couple just for a lark then, to get some experience with them.
brainchasm - nice carrots?
sanderson -- I've read the roots fork when they hit a change in soil texture such as is caused by a rock or tree root, but in MM? Harder to picture.
Gloria, that's a heck of a nice harvest! You pick your onions before their tops drop over?

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
A salad composed of onion/chive tops and flowers, romaine, and sorrel. Along with some store-bought ingredients.
Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Marc, I also have good childhood memories of mint growing wild in the woods behind my parents place and bringing it home for Mom to put in the big pitcher of tea for everyone to enjoy. Every time I smell fresh mint leaves its comforting. Its nice how food memories, even mint, can take you home again.
Oh Donna you are eating really healthy. I don't think I ever tasted sorrel. Is it spicy?

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
More lemony than spicy, I'd say. A former neighbor in Southern California recommended that I grow it. My current square is overgrowing its boundaries.
It's quite nutritious, I understand, but I find small quantities--in soups or salads--sufficient.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Uh, MM and dirt. Been digging up volunteer saplings, planting in the SFG boxes, clearing out quack grass (not in the SFG), and general clean-up. It has been a bit breezy so every once in a while I get smacked in the face with some MM or dirt - with mouth open...

LM, that sounds very nice. I remember mangoes and limes with the same fondness.
One of the things I find especially nice these days is when I'm walking about the garden and a breeze pushes through my peppermint, making the air suddenly smell so fresh and clean. That's so magical and always unexpected, like stepping into a fairy ring.

What am I eating from the garden?
Snap beans smothered down with potatoes; grown in a tire. Seasoned with bellpeppers and garlic from the 4x4 bed.
Black seeded simpson lettuce on a sandwich, and swiss chard salad with grape tomatoes, all from the same 4x4.
This is my first garden, and I have been so excited...

What are you eating from your garden today?
Thanks everyone. I appreciate it. We're working hard to get to the point where we don't have to buy any veggies except corn which I can't grow in our HOA. Not there yet, but hopefully soon.
Marc, I needed the onions for some cooking projects I was working on today. Some of the garlic too. But you're right, I usually leave them until they fall over.
Thanks,
Gloria

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Home Owner Association (for common ground maintenance and rules, usually for condos, mobile home parks, etc.)
What are you eating from your garden today?
Sorry about that! I should have said Homeowners Association.
Unfortunately, in our area of TX they are all over the place especially in housing developments. It is an effort by the original developer to ensure that homeowners maintain the appearance of the development by establishing a set of rules for the community. Many times the intent of the rules are fine, but the application of them can be problematic. i.e. when a homeowner has restrictions about the use of his yard or must get approval to change the color of his house, etc.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Gloria, I know of one exclusive (meaning $$) large lots, SFR HOA in Nebraska that does not allow veggie gardens in any manner. While you can sneak many types of veggies in flower beds, corn is really hard to disguise!
What are you eating from your garden today?
Yup!
Ours permits veggie gardens as long as they can't be "seen from the street".However, I live on a corner lot and almost my entire yard is visible. That's why I'm so careful to keep everything landscaped and I don't bother with corn.

I harvested more asparagus today for supper. Its so delish fresh. Makes store-bought seem like plastic.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
We got a big haul of lettuce, a little spinach, some big tasty radishes and more asparagus! We'll be having salads with dinner every night this week and sharing some as well.
