Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
I don't like beets. The only way I've ever been able to eat them is pickled. But my daughter gave me golden beet seeds for Christmas. Now I'm trying to find a way to eat them. She had served me a beet and apple salad last year which was ok. So I started investigating. Anyway I've found a way I can eat them.
Marinate sliced raw beets over night in balsamic vinigarette and serve with sliced radishes and apples over mixed lettuces.
Served with marinara sauce over angel hair pasta and italian sausage.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Been loving my salads... mixed fancy lettuce, butter lettuce, now curly
leaf lettuce, beet tops and spinach leaves... We ate up all the
radishes last week, but I'd neglected to plant more in time so we're in a
dry spell there... But what FUN! The kids are having a blast!

chard, lettuce (Rossimo, Bibb, Baby Romaine, Cherokee), snap peas, radishes. Someone in the family has learned where the radishes are growing and keeps picking them a bit early...I have one secret square I'm still protecting.

What are we eating...
Our perennial herbs are doing very well, and we may have enough lettuce to serve one!
Need a couple of more weeks (or should have bought more plants!)

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Spinach spinach spinach basil.
I am totally amazed by my spinach SFG bed, everything is so orderly and the same size and huge. I love pesto and my basil is really not big enough for a feast yet and so I take a few leaves of basil, TONS of spinach, and then artichokes from the jar (the stuff at costco), garlic, pine nuts, reggieano cheese and throw them in the blender and presto ... Pesto.
So we are having this on pizza every 2 nights.
I make the dough from scratch with a light spelt flour that is grown around here.
I would have pizza every night, but somehow it just seems wrong

She also picked and bit into quite a few peppers last year...I do have a cayenne plant I need to keep her away from...unless she wants to learn the hard way. Low hanging tomatoes may get picked a little early as well...maybe a good teeaching opportunity about colors...red vs. green.

WooHoo First Fruits(aka Veggies)
This is our first SFG. According to threads on here about broccoli they were getting ready to bloom. I also noticed little shoots on each of the plants too! This weekend's upcoming heat wave would have certainly sealed the deal on them, so time to much on some green.
We have 4 squares of lettuce in here with some spinach mixed in.
My husband and daughter had a blast planting and pulling these beauties!

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Tomorrow morning I will go out and cut another bowl (Tupperware Grande) of lettuce from my volunteers. I have Green Deer Tongue, Freckles, and Red Oak Leaf - lots of each. All are volunteers from what didn't germinate last year or what may have gone to seed. I did NOT plant lettuce this spring. And yet, this is the best lettuce crop I have ever had! I think in late fall, just before snow flies, I will sprinkle out the lettuce seeds for next year, like planting winter wheat. Let the snow insulate it for 5 months and then take out the salad bowl again! Stay tuned.....

chard, broccoli leaves in bags, mustard greens for me
mixed lettuce and tendergreen mustard that I planted by mistake (I don't like it) in bags
not shown is the turnip greens and sugar snap peas.

What a cool idea! I think I might give that a try, too. It wouldn't hurt. If the plants don't come up, then I can simply reseed and try again.
