 I have 8 Beefsteak and 4 Beefmasters running down the center of 3 consecutive boxes. They are all producing large, abundant fruit, still growing taller and producing more blossoms. I don't have the heart to cut the tops on them. They range from 5'+ up to slightly over 7' tall. They all seem very happy crowded together. I have trimmed the lower leaves off to allow for circulation. The only thing I have added to the Mel's Mix was 2 side dressings of alfalfa pellets.

Hi SG
One tomato plant per square foot. I followed the SFG book for spacing. It seemed tight compared to the spacing I was used to in my traditional gardens, but the plants are VERY happy. I wish I had the forethought to keep track of how much I get from each plant. Wouldn't it be interesting to know how many pounds of tomatoes per square foot?

This is my first year with SFG and I'm very impressed with how the garden is doing. I have 2 other gardens that I've had for many years with traditional soil and I planted like crops in each for a comparison. While they are all doing nicely the SFG is definitely superior to the others. The plants in the SFG appear larger, healthier with increased yields and there is minimal weeding needed.


The tomato plants have gotten so tall in this bed that you can't see the corn planted behind them anymore.

Sorry SG, misunderstood the question. In this particular bed there were 4 sq. broccoli, 4 sq. corn 4 plants per sq., 4 sq. of tomatoes and 4 sq. of Romaine 4 plants per sq. The broccoli and romaine are done and I have seeded those squares with beets and carrots for my second planting. They are tiny yet so you can't see them in today's photo.
