Does anyone grow Fennel?
I have grown it for the first time and am not completely sure what to do with it (I grew it for my sister and she did not come and get it so I planted them all in the garden and now they are huge) She has taken what she wanted.
Chopped up in a salad?? How do I know when to harvest the bulb?

Re: Does anyone grow Fennel?
I grew some over the winter, I really did not think it would grow. We all but did not have a winter so it grew. The misses made a fennel & apple salad that was really good.
She used a mandolin to string each (apple & Fennel bulb) then mixed together with mandarin orange slices and olive oil with a touch of chopped parsley.

WOW that sounds great. From what I read, it is too cold here to grow over winter and so I started in Feb. I am not sure if they are ready yet...
by mandolin do you mean those cutting devices?

Yes a cutting/sheading devise. I probably spelled it wrong never could spell. There are several fennel & apple salad recipes on line that sound great.
You can use all of the plant at any time harvest the bulb whenever it gets big enough to use. They get wider than thick. Josie( the misses) used the white part; bulb; for the salad.
