I'm in Manitoba, in Winnipeg, and I've just build and filled my boxes. Our LFD is May 25, so I'll be planting a few seeds right away, but the stuff I'm going to buy from a nursery is going to wait until May Long (or May Two-Four, as I used to call it in my youth How is your garden starting? 3170584802 ). How are you folks doing?

Thanks! I'm excited for the kids to come home from school so we can plant some carrot seeds. I have to run off to the Restore to get more dividers. I found these carpet strip things for 25 cents each and they're 4 feet long, and come with nails provided to put them in the corners of my beds! I just miscalculated how many I need, and need to get 4 more.

Hi! Came across one of Mel's videos on YouTube and decided to give SFG a try. It's been at least 10 years since I've had a vegetable garden. Had to find and dust off my grow lights, but managed to start seedlings in my spare bedroom.

Amethyst42, your beds look great! I'm hoping to build my boxes this weekend. I purchased 1X6X4' cedar from Rona. I'm a bit concerned about splitting the wood, but will pre-drill the screw holes first.

Thanks for the tip re ReStore. I am also in Winnipeg. I was planning on using jute twine, but may pick up the "carpet strip things" that you mentioned in your post. Do you know what they are made of?

Happy gardening everyone!

Hiya Bratgirl! Home Depot will cut the lumber for you for free, I'm not sure about Rona.

The 'carpet strip things' worked quite well, but one side has a bunch of teeny spikes on it, so I needed to be careful and wear gloves to work while installing them. The spike side is down now, so not too worried about hurting myself on them. I stared flattening them with a hammer, but got kinda lazy about it after the 4th strip or so. I found that weaving them worked better than laying them down one direction after the other. They're in the back of the store in a barrel. There were 8ft strips of moulding that would have worked, but they were $4 each, and not exactly economical.

Good luck, post pics!
