Found it this morning and it's not sitting in a container on the dining table. I believe it's the tomato hornworm but looking at the side view and comparing them to examples, it might be a tobacco worm.

Not sure which of the hornworms it is but BT takes care of both.

I think the last one is a green june beetle larve. The green june beetles are common here this time of year. They do not seem to do a lot of damage but are munching on some of the ripe tomatoes.

Are they normally that color? or is that when they're beginning to metamorph into the adult bug? o.o

If it's just one, I'll be okay. If there's more then one, we'll have to find some way of getting them off the plant without killing either of them. But I want to be stingy with my tomatoes and not share darn it. lol

I'm not sure which one you are talking about but the colors are normal.

On the hornworms there are sure to be more when you find one that size. They start out small (less than an inch long) and get larger as they eat your tomato leaves. Pick them off by and and destroy them or give them to the chickens.

As for the green june beetles, there larve are in the ground and don't bother much there. The bettles are a nuisanse. I covered some bunches of tomatoes in old nylons to keep them from getting munched but I have too many to do that now - my toms are mostly cherry types and they do get a few.

Pull them off by hand and pitch them to the chickens or the neighbors. Wink If they have little white egg sacks all over their backs, they are doomed any way. Those egg sacks contain braconid wasps, a natural parasite of the horn worm. a gardener's friend. I love you

nah. this one didn't have the wasp eggs on it's back. But I'm definitely keeping and eye for them. and I think they'll become chicken snacks. lol I'd bring our chickens out if I thought we could secure the yard well enough and let them get the bugs themselves.
